"The only constant in life is change." - Heraclitus

In my 20 years of experience working in the behavioral health field, I have witnessed the damage that unmanageable behavior can have on individuals and those they love. This behavior is usually manifested in the abuse of alcohol and other drugs (especially opiates and heroin), and often an untreated (or undiagnosed) mental health condition such as PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, or Bipolar Disorder. By the time individuals seek help for these conditions, most often there has been a tremendous amount of hurt, shame, and guilt.

I have a strong commitment to providing treatment in a safe, respectful, and confidential setting where individuals and families can begin to heal from these painful wounds.

My approach to treatment is to utilize tenets found in strength-based, Brief Treatment therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, and blend them with the more conventional 12-Step, Disease Concept approach. It is a foundation of my process to assist patients to see the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and actions. I work very hard with my patients to identify the internal and external factors motivating them to seek treatment. A cornerstone of my treatment process is to work closely with the family members of patients, who are often neglected in the treatment process.

The main principles of my approach are as follows:

  • addiction and other mental health conditions are chronic, progressive, and deadly illnesses;
  • these conditions can not be cured, but are treatable;
  • treatment works – regardless of the reason the individual is seeking treatment;
  • we have the capacity to be in control of our thoughts, feelings, and behavior;
  • change is constantly taking place in out lives.

Please contact me so I can personally answer any questions you may have regarding these cunning, baffling, and powerful illnesses.
